Then
they came. Seeing the Brethren was truly a humbling experience. To know
they came all the way to this tiny island was so joyful and a real blessing.
It is the first time I have ever been around a Prophet of the Lord.
I shook his hand and it was like shaking the hand of a 25 year old strongman,
even though he is 92 he has a good grip and a friendly booming voice
with great tone and he said to me... "How are you?"
By this time I was content enough, I had shook hands with a Prophet
of the Lord and I was not going to 'wash my hands for the day'.
Pres.
Faust was equally full of vigor and it was good to see him again since
the London MTC (see Book One). We started our drive towards the Hilton
Hotel. In the car Pres. Faust talked about the last time he was in Trinidad
as a missionary returning home. You can hear more about that by [See
video section] for audio. He also asked me questions about the kinds
of government, the population, etc. He seemed to be quite interested
in people and cultures.
One
can become quite tempted to ask a billion deep doctrine questions of
Brethren in authority, but I had always been thought on my mission to
give the Brethren chance to say what they need to say so that we might
learn. I was glad I did not ask any impromptu questions because I believe
I learnt many things from an Apostle of the Lord that I could not learn
had I tried to 'dictate' the 'topics'.
At
the hotel Pres. Reuben Raphael, POS Branch President, was on hand to
meet and greet everyone and take them to their rooms. There was a bit
of delay in getting into their correct rooms due to the hotel changing
rooms at the last moment, but other than that I think they were glad
to be finally off the plane and able to rest.
During
one period while in the hotel's elevator with Pres. Faust, his grandson
and security officer... Pres. Faust gave me a friendly massage near
my neck in a brotherly way, I turned to him and said, "Thanks
President, its been a long time since I had a massage, I am trying to
get my wife to give me one but its hopeless." Everyone politely
chuckled.
