History of the Saints
Location: Home > Trinidad & Tobago > Pres. Hinckley Fireside

We have now come a long way since Lucy J. Payne's baptism. Lucy was the first member to be baptized in Trinidad - 2nd June, 1977. She was Baptized by Emil Paul Dopson and confirmed by Daniel Rector, the son of Emeritus Status General Authority - Hartman Rector Jr.(See Book One)

(LtoR) Don Van Noy, Jean A. B. Borde, Albert Alleyne, and Emrol GouldEach District Presidency meeting lasted for many hours with the Prophet's visit and protocol issues being high on the agenda. Chosen members who would act as assigned ushers, security and planners converged at the Mission Office for a crucial meeting on the 15th May, 2002. The 'what ifs', facts, and decisions concerning the 'Special Fireside' were discussed, adopted and documented in the presence of the District Presidency and Pres. Van Noy.

One of the items we wanted to implement among the membership was the importance of the Prophet and his entourage's coming and those things they needed to do to prepare for their words. I use the words 'their words' because we later found out that Pres. James E. Faust of the First Presidency would also be arriving with Pres. Hinckley. In one Branch I was asked, "What if we are not worthy to be in the presence of the Prophet?" I was a bit confused at the question, but then saw how someone new to the Church could be confused. I explained the difference between the Lord whom we worship and the Prophet, just a man, but a chosen man at that. I also mentioned that there was only one place in the Church that I could think of (at the moment) that required 'special characteristics' or worthiness to enter - that being the Holy Temple. The Prophet is coming to all I explained - both 'healthy' and 'sick'.
