The
History of the Saints in Trinidad & Tobago Book One
VISION

In
anticipation of the hand over of our new meeting house soon, the Port
of Spain Branch leadership visited the construction site on Wednesday,
26th July, 1995.
We
explored the building around 5:30 p.m.and noted its size in comparison
to buildings we have had sacrament meetings in the past. Such joy came
over me as I cannot describe, phrases and words like, 'at last', 'we are
blessed', 'a new horizon', 'growth of the Kingdom', 'and 'no unhallowed
hand could stop the work of the Lord' came into my mind. I could already
envision a meeting in progress, primary children singing, a recent convert
being ordained a priest in the Aaronic priesthood, an all Trinidad Branch
conference, and someone being baptized in the baptismal font as I walked
into each half plastered room. My imagination had made it as though the
chapel was completed and ready for us to occupy its empty space.

At
the Ground Breaking Eulalie James, Parliamentary Secretary Laventile
West, gave the following speech:
"Firstly,
I wish to apologize for the absence of the Honorable Prime Minister Patrick
Manning, he sends you his best wishes on this special occasion. Let me
say that it is indeed an honor for me to represent him here this day.
Your organization must be highly commended for your foresight and planning
to bring about the type of building soon to be erected here, for it shows
clearly that you understand what is needed, especially for the all round
development of our young people.
The good work you are doing must be highly praised, for you are not only
seeking to develop a strong spiritual awareness among your members, but
you have also sought to allow this awareness to be shown in a very special
way as you shower your spirit of charity on members of the community.
You have shown a clear understanding that God is a big God - in whom we
move and dwell and have our being - and as such he is able to do for you
much more than you can ask, think or desire.
I have no doubt that this facility when completed will in no small measure
contribute to the upliftment of the people in this community and the country
as a whole.
Again it is my pleasure to be present here with you today to share in
this groundbreaking ceremony.
May God richly bless you as you seek his guidance always to enable you
to make that positive impact on the moral and spiritual community.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago supports you in your effort to serve
God's people everywhere."
I
gave thought to the struggles of the Saints who helped to put these
beams and blocks together. Would people appreciate this newly built structure?
Do they know what kind of symbol it is to many? I hope as members reflect
on the HISTORY OF THE SAINTS IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, they can positively
answer "yes!" to both questions. For me, it was not masons putting
mortar and blocks one on top another, but it was Elizabeth Rogers doing
it, I did not behold the technicians installing fittings, but it was Lucy
Payne doing it, I glanced at men breaking ground to lay a foundation solid,
but I could only see our local Branch Presidents doing it, I could not
see the hired painters painting the walls, but only many faithful members
doing the job to the best of their ability, I did not see the architect's
name on the board, but the name of Jesus Christ was there, it always is.
This is the work of the Lord, may we always remember that in the name
of Jesus Christ, Amen.
